REVIEW e.l.f. Studio Vanilla & Coconut Lotion Wipes

29 December 2013

So, I'm back from my ridiculous hiatus! With a ton of reviews! I'm going to be doing "Bloguary", where I post (at least) one blog per day during the month of January! My goal is to post two or three blogs a week, but I'm so behind that blogging every day in January seems incredibly legit to me, haha. Anyway, this is an e.l.f. Studio product review!

I am obsessed with wipes of any kind. I know, it's horrible for the environment and it's horrible for your wallet but the convenience factor is soooooo nice. Like those Super Goop sunscreen wipes? LOVE 'EM. I have bug spray in a wipe form as well. Let's be real here; who the hell wants to lug around full bottles of sunscreen and bug spray? Or carry around window cleaner in their car? I haven't hauled from e.l.f.'s website in quite a while because I was waiting for a decent sale (I did haul a ton of stuff during their 50% off/free shipping so there will be a LOAD of reviews when I get that stuff!). Luckily my local Targets and Hardings carry select e.l.f. products. I found these at Hardings and they're $3, the same price as through the website (minus shipping!) They only had one scent available but lotion wipes? Sounds good to me! I'm so lazy when it comes to applying body lotion and, again, who wants to drag a bottle of lotion around with them!?

FTC Disclaimer: I purchased these with my own money. I am not being compensated for this review. I am not affliated with the company. I am not being sponsored and, as always, all opinions are entirely my own.

There are a total of six scents available via e.l.f.'s website; "Vanilla & Coconut", "Milk & Honey", "Cucumber & Melon", "Peony Petal", "Shea Butter", and "Sweet Mango". I purchased the "Vanilla & Coconut", since that was the only scent available. Each pack comes with 15 wipes and they're about the size of a Neutrogena face wipe, for size reference. That isn't super big, and they aren't crazy saturated with product either. One wipe is enough for my arms and shoulders. If you wanted to use these all over your body, you would probably use at least three, which means you would get about five total applications. I love my wipes, but even I know this is impractical as hell. At three bucks a pop, you could buy a whole bottle of lotion and get at least 40 uses out of it! If you wanted to throw these in a purse to carry with you, then they might not be so bad, but I wouldn't recommend that, and I'll get to that later.

According to e.l.f.:

Hydrate your body with silky smooth moisture. The light and airy lotion moisturizes your skin, keeping it soft and supple all day long. These convenient Lotion Wipes are great for on-the-go travel and mess-free application. Just throw them in your purse or bag for soothing and refreshing moisture without carrying around a bulky lotion bottle.

Enrich your senses with the delicious scent of Vanilla and Coconut. Infused with Aloe, Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Soy, Ginkgo Biloba, Coconut Milk and Sweet Almond Oil to revitalize and nourish the skin. 15 sheets included.

INGREDIENTS:

Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Caprilyiic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Dimethicone, Betaine, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbate 80, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate (Ve), Glycine Max (Soybean) Oil, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (Aroma), Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylisothiazolinone.

Looks quite promising, right? Well, first off, these contain both parabens AND cones, so if you like to avoid those two ingredients, these are not for you. Secondly, I'm not sure if I'd qualify the scent as delicious. It's not an edible scent. It's not horrible and it does smell like coconut and vanilla...and a strong underlying sunscreeny/chemical scent that lingers noticeably. I don't mind the smell, but it would probably bother a lot of people. I would say it's more like...a room spray or a cheap coconut scented candle than a yummy food smell.

This product doesn't sink into the skin fast. It's very liquidy and feels a bit greasy for about ten minutes. It will sink in faster if you rub it in but I feel the need to wash my hands afterwards because they remain a bit tacky feeling for a couple of minutes after. While it does feel somewhat hydrating for a half hour or so, the moisturized feeling does not linger as long as the smell.

I do like the packaging. It feels pretty sturdy and comes with a plastic top that seals securely, which is much better than one of those resealable sticker tops, haha. That being said, I would pass on these, unless you feel a pressing need to try them, in which case, you're only out three dollars. Overall, I think you're much better off spending that three bucks on a good bottle of lotion!

If you're interested in these and you have never purchased from e.l.f. before, you can enter the coupon code "ECS50F" for 50% off the Studio line only, if you spend $20 or more. Also, if you spend $35 or more, the coupon code is also good for free shipping.
